Law Enforcement

Surveillance cameras have become a part of the daily city view, being an important tool in protection of citizens, infrastructure and society. The cameras serve three purposes in law enforcement: Firstly, they act as visible deterrents to prevent crime. Intelligent Video Content Analysis turns the surveillance system into a proactive alerting tool, and finally, recording of images offers an unequalled way to collect evidence for investigations. |
Mirasys Carbon VMS helps to protect the City of BangkokTwo years ago, Mirasys was chosen as supplier of the Video Management System for the CitySafe surveillance project of Bangkok City in Thailand. M.R. Sukhumbhand Paripatra, Governor of Bangkok then said: “We want to take additional measures to maintain the public safety of the entire city. With this particular procurement we want to accelerate the process and believe that there will more than 20 000 cameras to cover the most important areas within next four years.” In 2009-2010, phase one of the CitySafe project saw 3,000 cameras installed throughout the Bangkok region. This year, phase two has developed this into a citywide increase of 5,000 cameras, simultaneously raising the number of users from hundreds to thousands of officers working at Bangkok’s 88 police stations. Mirasys’ user-friendly and configurable Carbon VMS platform together with advanced Video Analytics has allowed Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to take a targeted approach to CCTV monitoring by categorising and grouping footage from each camera in line with the diverse surveillance requirements which range from traffic and flood monitoring and control to crime prevention.

Camera Surveillance in Detentions CentersNorway’s first detention center is located in Trandum, close to Oslo airport. It is here where asylum seekers are placed when the authorities consider them as unauthorized arrivals or illegal immigrants. Persons without identity papers or persons about to be repatriated to their country of origin are also held here. Video surveillance provides more comprehensive monitoring and a heightened level of safety for inmates and workers. “We wanted to make sure our video surveillance was up to par,” tells Axel Withers, Head of Security for the Immigration Service at the national police in Norway. "The Mirasys system offers an intuitive, user-friendly interface that enables security staff to quickly get up to speed and supports smart searches of archived images for fast response to events,” comments Withers. “Moreover, the Mirasys V series scales easily, so it supports the addition of more cameras at the facility if needs should arise in the future". |
